NEWS for 01/30/08: Good Lord. That's three weeks to get this up, Joe. Any slower and I'll actually start un-updating previous comics...
-Joe
NEWS for 01/09/08: Uhm. Nothing much to add, I guess... oh, One More Day sucked. Yeah. That totally sucked.
That's news, right?
-Joe
NEWS for 12/23/07: I'm not going back to the old style, if that's what you're thinking. Don't think that. This is just a flashback to an overlooked spot in Zebra Girl's history. I'm hopping right back to the pro comics page format next update. Seriously, this was a kick to do for nostalgia's sake, but I can not go back to drawing that small on a permanent basis. That having been said, Happy Holidays! You probably deserve it.
-Joe
NEWS for 12/13/07: Wow. Has it actually been that long since I typed anything here?? Well... from now on I really will do this more often, like I said I would! Every update! Because people love me, I'm funny and you all want to hear what I have to say! I'm sure of it.
Hey, thanks for helping me reach another donation goal, guys. Seriously. I've actually received more donations than the meter there suggests, which I'll add to the tally for the next one, if that's okay. I just had to rush that gif into production when a certain fine someone made a hefty donation and the amount suddenly went all the way to five hundred, and I would've felt bad about adding donations made when it looked lower than it was. And I feel bad enough about totally failing to make new desktop images, I've got to do like five now just to catch up. Damn, I suck at deadlines.
Of course, I might've finished that sooner if I hadn't been working on the site, tinkering with the HTML, as is my habit. But good news! I think I finally got the front page just how I like it. So I'm sure you're happy about that. Next I'll do the fan sections! You have no reason to disbelieve me, do you?? None at all!
But here's something I'm sure you're not happy about. That mousepad I'm selling in the Cafepress store - I finally ordered one myself, and it's got this lousy white stripe along the bottom! Has that happened to anyone else?? If so, I apologize. That really shouldn't be there, I could've sworn I had it lined up so it looked right in the preview. If you ordered one and that happened to you, or if it didn't, let me know. 'Cause that bugs me. I might've fixed the problem now, but I'll order another one and see if it turns out the same.
Man, I wonder what'll happen to Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew? I hope they turn out okay.
-Joe
NEWS for 10/29/07: Expect a real update on Halloween. Really. It'll intimidate you, such an update it will be.
-Joe
NEWS for 10/21/07: Siiigghhhhhh...
I really did try. I did. I knew I wouldn't have a comic page ready for this week... there was just too much else going on in my cloudy, mysterious life to realistically consider it. But I wanted to have something for you. I was going to update the fan sections at last, and throw along some other stuff I've been working on as well, but as things turned out, the best I could manage was updating every other part of the site. So all that'll have to wait for next weekend. And the comic, too. At least, let us hope.
I hate being late. One of these days I'm going to have to figure out how not to do it.
Anyway. Hopefully by next weekend I'll have an update to be proud of. Not that I'm not proud of finally modifying the rest of the site, because, believe me, it's harder than it looks.
Unless you think it looks really hard. In which case, it looks just right. Have a nice week, and wish me luck entering the land of twenty-seven.
-Joe
NEWS for 08/02/07: Nnh. Too tired. I'm too tired right now. I say something later. After sleep is come good.
-Joe
NEWS for 07/24/07: Oorgh. Sorry, guys. Looks like I came down with a bug, or something I ate disagreed with me, or I angered a vengeful god, or possibly it was the work of some malign lowly spirit. All we need to know is, the comic will somehow manage to be delayed even more than it usually is this week.
And believe me... I don't feel any better about it than you do.
-Joe
NEWS for 07/10/07: Okay. Now, I said I'd just talk out here whenever I update, and I'm gonna stick to that. Even if I don't have anything to say.
So.
Soooo...
How-how are things with you? Yeah? Good, are they?
Okay, that's good.
Oh, and I'll, ah, get to all that stuff that I said that I'd get to. Like, soon, you know. Really. No, really.
That's good.
-Joe
NEWS for 06/10/07: Ug. Late, late, late. I seem to have fallen into a slightly less-than bi-weekly schedule. Well heck, since I'm pretty much doing a full-page comic every update that probably evens out... like... somehow. Hope that's alright with you. I'll try to keep things moving at a brisk pace, anyway.
Now is the time on Sprockets when we rant.
Let me tell you, one of the biggest risks doing creative work is in becoming a hermit. It's just so easy to withdraw from the world. Desktops are due, I haven't been answering e-mails, I've been ignoring this news section, I certainly haven't been giving proper attention to my many beautiful lady-friends who absolutely do exist outside of my fantasies. And like I say every time this happens, all that needs to change. To start with, I think I'll get in the habit of always saying something here, whenever I update. Just because I don't have much to say, doesn't mean it's not good to talk. So...
Yeah.
Oh, has anyone seen those "I'm a Marvel and I'm a DC" things on Youtube? Funny stuff, man. It's like... kind of like Matt Gardner's stuff on Newgrounds. That's good too. Comics are easy to make fun of. How about that "Ultimate Crisis of Infinite Countdowns," eh? Can't Marvel and DC go one month without starting some grotesque, bloated mega-crossover storyline? And when did Iron Man become such a bastard? I don't mind that, really, I enjoy variety and easy targets, but what is this going to do to his movie prospects? What kind of character is he going to be on film? For the last couple of decades, his only notable character traits have been that he's an alchoholic and mildly Machiavellian. Now he's this utter pontificating backstabbing politician. The latter portrayal is the first time I think he's ever had a sustained, distinct personality, but if they play him like that everyone'll hate him. Unless Mr. Downey Jr. can manage to portray bastardhood as likable, which I doubt. But what else have they got to work with? And another thing, has everyone seen the new Joker? As played by Heath Ledger? I know it's not wise to judge beforehand, but this bugs me. Why is it that every time they bring the Joker to screen they feel the need to make him more horrific with some kind of gimmicky super-deformity? Nicholson's Joker (which I did enjoy) had his face literally warped into a permanent grin, and now Ledger's Joker is, apparently, going to have huge chunky scars and crazy lipstick all over him. Isn't the chalk-white skin, red lips and green hair deformed enough? Who keeps saying we have to make one of the undisputed greatest villains of all time "cooler" or "scarier" than he's been for the last half-a-century? Cesar Romero did just fine without him being horribly deformed. But I guess in the next film series they'll have the Joker's smile be due to a batarang lodged upside-down in his jaw. No, you want to see a really great treatment of the character? Check out the fan film "Patient J." Now that, my friends, is how you depict a classic like the Joker.
Hey, I did have stuff to say after all.
Next; check those e-mails...
-Joe
NEWS for 05/11/07: Sorry for the impromptu delay, folks, the adventures of Spring have kept me busy. What do electrocuted mice, broken water heaters, exploding humidifiers and disintegrating forests have in common? I now have experience with all of them. And look, T. Campbell was canny enough to interview me! So if you're interested in hearing what I sound like over a phone line, check it out.
Another thing worth noting, I suppose, is that Zebra Girl is now over seven years old.
Yep.
I've heard it said that in the course of seven years, every molecule in your body is recycled and you have in effect become an entirely new person. I'll let you muse on the appropriate symbolism as it relates to the comic... I'm sure anything I could add will already have occurred to you... I'm going to go get something to eat. And tomorrow I'll see Spider-Man 3 with my mother.
Crazy seven years. Crazy kind of crowd to spend it with.
-Joe
NEWS for 04/08/07: Annnnd... Go.
Okay, I'm back! Zebra Girl's back! Really back! But she's come back... changed.
Yes, this is the dawn of a weird new day. No, don't be confused... that's not another guest comic. That is actually an official installment of Zebra Girl you're seeing up there. Inspired by online cartoonists like Tracy Butler, Remy Mokhtar and Bleedman, I have made a decision to alter somewhat the traditional style of this publication, to render it in a manner which may lend itself better to print and artistic endeavor. In other words... Zebra Girl is now an online comic-book.
Of course, I freely acknowledge that there are drawbacks to all this. Pacing this story in a manner appropriate to a comic book means that the plot might not advance as quickly, as each page may take more space and time to depict events as they unfold. The lettering could seem unnecessarily large, since it's being made to be easily readable in print. Please bear with me while I try this all out, and please, PLEASE let me know what you think.
Now, as for the comic itself, you may have noticed that these two... people just showed up out of the blue. Well don't worry, I'm not going to stay on this tangent long. We'll get to Sandra and her business soon, this page and the next one will be but a brief prelude and a chance for me to flex my muscles, take this new format for a test drive. So that by the time I do get back to the main characters, I'll be ready to screw with them with confidence. And you, too! Stick with me, and before long I'll be screwing with all of us in ways you have never seen!
Ahh. Oh, and I'm making a few little changes to the website itself. A nip, a tuck, you know. You probably didn't notice. Work in progress. I hope you don't mind having to go to another page for Sandra's Journal, but I thought it'd be less confusing to put it in a kind of context. Again, let me know what you think as I continue to work on the site.
I can't believe I'm using blue-line paper now.
-Joe
NEWS for 03/30/07: Eric Moore's going crazy! He's making guest comics left and right! I don't know if we can stop him!!
Okay, this is the home stretch. Eric's bringing us in gracefully with a trilogy of guestwork, and I'm sure we couldn't possibly have done better. Yes! There's more! How will Young Professor Broadshoulders handle this one?? Stay tuned to find out!
In case you don't know, Eric is the puppetmaster behind the hilarious Youthtopia and The Tailybones. Now you know. Isn't that great!? Have fun!
We're going to have fun when I get back, too. Oh, I have such things in store.
-Joe
NEWS for 03/26/07: Danielle LaBove proves her mettle with the latest fan comic. Thanks Danielle, it kicks ass! I'll just bet that if he had Internet access Gregore would spend his time being melodramatic online. Say, all of you go check out more of her great art. That is not a request.
By the way, the hiatus is nearing completion. Strange way of putting it? Let's see what happens.
-Joe
NEWS for 03/23/07: Luna-Kitsune-Blu shows us the potential downsides to Sandra's quest for humanity. Well, it'd be a downside to Sandra anyway. Awesome job Blu-Chan! You impress us all with your skills of great justice! If Zebra Girl was ever made into a real, honest-to-god manga, I know for certain who I'd recommend for the art chores. Oh, you can see a larger version of this comic in her gallery at DeviantArt.
-Joe
NEWS for 03/19/07: Let's speed things up a little, shall we? I'm getting still more fan comics, and they're all eager to have their moment in the sun! Besides, it'll be novel updating the site more than once a week for a change.
This one, this one here, is here with us today only by the good grace of Skangl! And once again Skangl, you have shown yourself to be a fan of admirable initiative and talent. Thank you. And by the way, I am VERY impressed with how you render Broadshoulders/Gregore. VERY.
Butwoah! New guest comics are incoming! Duck and cover!!
-Joe
NEWS for 03/16/07: It doesn't count as cursing! The "hi" is fuzzed out! See? Anyway, this latest guest comic is courtesy of Matthew Harris of Floyd and Mike. Thanks Matthew, we all appreciate it! Don't we, all? Yes we do. ...I know I do.
Hmm... these guest comics are coming kind of slow, aren't they? Just once a week, without any entries in Sandra's Journal... this hiatus is dragging. I'm going to have to perk things up somehow... Oh! I know! How about a new free desktop? That's somehow! Check it out in the store - number 16. On the 16th! Cute. Now I believe that's all the desktops due from the past several "Joe Does Something" drives. I believe. But in this crazy world, who knows what to believe anymore?
Speaking of which, the "blue plaid" edition of the "Does Something" project isn't doing too well. But that's to be expected, since I haven't done much this month to inspire donations! Yeah, I don't really expect money for nothing, I just put him up there because I thought leaving the "pink/orange plaid-superhero" gif up would get boring. It's really just to get a head start on when the comic starts back up again. So we'll just keep him around over next month too, by which point I'll have likely started putting comics up on this site again. If you don't want to consider donating until I actually start producing content, that's cool. And if you feel like donating anyway, that's awesome!
Now, what do you suppose Sandra's getting up to in all this time...?
-Joe
NEWS for 03/09/07: This comic comes to us (albeit primarily to me, and from me to you) from Ry Gipson. Thanks Ry! That falls fairly squarely into the category of gags I wish I'd thought of myself. It's a rare human being who can keep one step ahead of the likes of me! "Rare" being a relative term. Slightly.
And now that's it. I used up the rest of the news last week.
-Joe
NEWS for 03/02/07: Today's guest comic was written by Orion Gates of Beyond Reality and drawn by NJ Huff of Emergency Exit. They did a GREAT job and their respective comics are great too. Thanks guys!
And... that's it. I used up the rest of the news yesterday.
-Joe
NEWS for 03/01/07: I hope you all can forgive me this, but... I've decided to extend this hiatus a while. And for several reasons.
For one thing, new guest comics have unexpectedly shown up at my doorstep (including an interesting project in the forums by one Pnelma Tirian) and it would be a crying shame not to give them their day in the sun. And for another thing, this break from Zebra Girl is just going too damn well. I am getting SO MUCH DONE. I created a kickass online portfolio and heightened my HTML and Photoshop skills quite a bit in the process, I've learned how to make business cards at home for both of my websites, I've finally been getting the chance to draw and develop new ideas, my resume has been expanding, I went to the NYC Comic-con and made loads of new connections (if you were there Sunday then hey! Maybe you actually saw me. Neat, huh?) and I've generally been getting my act together in all sorts of new and exciting ways. Don't get me wrong, I love Zebra Girl as much as I've ever loved any artistic endeavor I've ever made, but taking a break from her has been such a breath of fresh air.
At any rate, the beauty of being a webcartoonist is being your own boss, and sometimes you just gotta be good to your employees. I hope the guest comics, Sandra's Journal, and the latest new free desktop (in the store) will satisfy you for now. Speaking of which, if you look in the art section of the aforementioned kickass online portfolio you'll find that I've incorporated the 640x480-sized versions of most of the desktops to date. So if you want 'em... you've earned 'em. For sticking with me and this crazy comic, if for nothing else.
I'll start the comic proper back up again soon, and I'll let you all know when. Probably sometime this month. But until then, enjoy the fan comics and... well... just try and think of this little vacation as an early anniversary present I'm giving to myself.
Has it really almost been seven years, now...? Good lord...
-Joe
NEWS for 02/23/07: So! The guest comics are rolling right along, one more to go before the month's out! This latest comes from William Duke of The Nerdening. Show your appreciation however you want, just make sure that it's shown. Read his comic, if you don't already. That's a start. Thanks William!
The Fan Site is rolling right along too, already you can find there new fan art and new additions to ongoing fiction! The place is still under construction of course, so by all means feel free to comment or make suggestions in the forums.
So that's all for now. Go now. Go look at comics.
-Joe
NEWS for 02/16/07: Hello again, hope you had a nice Valentine's, we all missed you over here, how've you been enjoying this blah blah blah down to business. Okay! Here, here's the first guest comic for this hiatus. This guest comic is by Bren MacDonald. Thanks again Bren, you continue to pay your way. If it weren't for Bren, why... you wouldn't have this neat guest comic to look at. And hey, that would be tragic.
Now, you're probably wondering what I've been doing with myself all this time. Or if not, you should have been. Because it might've been something horrifying. It wasn't, this time... you were lucky. But here's what it is! Do you remember how a long, long time ago I created another website for myself? A portfolio site? But it was only ever half-finished? Do you? Huh? Well, now it's all-the-way finished. There's not much there yet that you probably haven't seen before, but do your damndest to enjoy my Obsessive Thoughts.
But I wasn't the only one busy online this month - Phillip (that's "Shortyland05" to you forumeers) is spearheading the construction of a new Fan Site! As in, a site for fans, by fans, where fans can post fan work! Because we all know I kind of suck at keeping fan work ordered myself. So it only makes sense. We'll see how it develops, and before long I might be linking directly to this new site as the prime repository for all things... fanny.
By the way, I hope you've enjoyed Joe Doing Something so far. This last one dragged out a bit beyond a single month, just because I'm so easygoing. I mean, if I had swapped it out when February hit then you would never have known what that particular Joe would've Done! And I couldn't do that to you! It would have destroyed you! So we'll start fresh when March hits. And yes... I know I owe desktops. I'm working on 'em.
Now lastly, I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who's offered praise, support and well-wishing over the past several months. Catching up on my e-mails recently I noticed a particular number of Christmas greetings. And I have to say, again, that it really is all appreciated. Is there any better type of friend than a fan? I wonder.
It's not like I have many regular friends, anyway.
Ah, but we'll talk more in a few days, when the next guest comic goes up. Well... I'll talk. You'll listen.
-Joe
NEWS for 01/29/07: H'arright. This is sudden, I know, but... Look. Folks. ...And the folk-like. Every now and again, I just have to take a break from Zebra Girl. And you know what? It's been now and again for at least a week. This last storyline seriously took over my life. I've been neglecting the forums. I've been neglecting your fan work. I've been neglecting my other websites. I've got about a hundred and seventy e-mails I need to respond to (so if you've e-mailed me anytime in the last couple of weeks and I haven't responded... that's why). I haven't even found it in me to update the news posts on this site until right now! And, of course, I've been neglecting things in my life that don't even have anything to do with computers.
Now, we all know that hiatuses are a natural part of a webcomic's life. And I am sorry about this, I know they tend to suck regardless. But I'll be back in about a month! I couldn't stay away from you anyway, you guys've been great to me lately and it's really inspiring. And thanks to that, I've been nominated for Best Black and White Art again in The 2007 Web Cartoonists Choice Awards! That's awesome, and you're awesome for helping me out.
Now, if anyone wants to try their hand at making fan comics to try and fill the horrific, gaping void that will no doubt fester in your souls like an untreated wound while you wait desperately for the holy medicine which is my comic, feel free! Send them to me and I'll showcase them on the site and put 'em in the archives. I wonder what I would call that, in the storyline guide... Guest Comicopolis? The Substitutionalization Sensation? The Prime of Miss Jean Fancomic? Well I'll jump that bridge if I come to it. Anyhow, I know it's short notice, but that's what happens when I neglect my news section.
The site might not be totally dead, anyway. I still owe you all free desktops for the fundraiser. That Joe may yet Do Something. And there may soon be a new site altogether, to showcase fanwork. I do have other projects online, and I might post the occasional link. I've got so much crap that I need to get in line, some of it's bound to interest you!
So there. That's it for now. That's... man, looking back, that newspost kinda sucks. I can't even string sentences together in a wry or sardonic fashion right now. I must really need a breather.
Then let's say... comic retuurrrnnss... March first. Why not. Yeah. Then we'll really see what zany mischief Sandra and company get all up to in the '07.
-Joe
NEWS for 12/03/06: You may have noticed the extra-large update this week... I think we're all a little anxious for this storyline to work itself out, so I'm going to try and kick it into high gear a little. We can take a breather when we wrap this up.
Oh wow, I still haven't found time to do the fan art. Next time Gadget, next time. Sheesh, I take longer to finish things than... than something which... takes a long time... to finish... things. Yeah. ...Sorry.
Now, another month has passed on forever, but this time the monthly goal wasn't met. That's cool, it's just the second one of these I've done and I'm still testing the waters. I'm certainly not complaining to you guys, I'm still great big chunks of grateful for all the generous donations I've received, they're really helping me get by. Next time I'll aim lower, perhaps at my original goal of 500 a month.
In fact, I'm so grateful that... what the Hell, I'mo Do Something anyway. If I'm lowering the bar back down to 500 from now on then I may as well say that qualifies for this month as well. So there, see? My head explodes. That's something! And I'll come up with a new free desktop soon too. And re-vamp the store. And put up the fan work. And make print versions of my work. And, and...
One thing at a time Joe. Two at most.
-Joe
NEWS for 11/06/06: Ah, another month of events leading to other events as time instigates the evolution of the Universe and all things. Crazy!
Well, I'm ready to Do Something again. Bit of a late start this month, but there've been a few generous donations since November started and I've decided to apply them to the current round. Seems only fair. Also, I'm aiming a bit higher than I did last time - I'm still reeling from the success of the first "Joe Does Something" campaign and I don't want to seem presumptuous by upping the ante, but it would be irresponsible of me not to follow up on such apparent potential for the sake of my various responsibilities outside of this comic, and indeed, for the sake of alleviating those responsibilities for the sake of the comic itself.
Man, I don't even know what I just said. That sentence was too long. Let's just see how this works out...
Oh and don't forget your desktops! I said I'd come up with two instead of one since last month went so well... but I sort of lied, since I've almost come up with three. There's Crystal's Goth desktop and wow! Tomie finally gets a day in the sun. And since it was only common sense, I made two versions of Tomie's desktop to suit whichever side of the computer screen you like to keep your icons on. Check them out in the store, will you? Will you!?
Now by God I need to feature some fan art. But just before I do, I'm going to buckle down and re-organize my oft-neglected yet marvelous fan art pages, making them into a more streamlined and less complicated configuration so that featuring the work of my beloved followers will be all the easier. I hope no one minds, but man, it's gotta be done. Giving everyone their own page is a nice thought, but I think it's caused more problems than it's solved for all concerned. Though if anyone objects, feel free to shout out at me... though my e-mails are piling up too... damn, I'm just kind of a slob aren't I?
Stay classy San Diego.
-Joe
NEWS UPDATE for 10/26/06: Oh, I should have mentioned. Did you hear? Bren MacDonald (alias Kubrick) and some of his friends happen to have made the coolest thing ever. Yeah. Coolest thing ever. Who would have thought it'd happen in their lifetime? You best be thankful for your luck. Coolest thing ever, and you get to see it. Be grateful to Bren and his crew. Bren? The crew? We're grateful. Check out the end credits and remember their names. You all did an awesome job, and I now consider you arch-fans of Zebra Girl.
Have yourselves a party.
I have the best webcomic fans in the world.
-Joe
NEWS for 10/26/06: Well, there it is. Down on the right, by the news and beneath the news box. There's what I do this month. Do you get it? Think about it. Oh, and holy CRAP. No... Holy CRAP! HOLY CRAP, did I actually get that much money this month!? Through this website?? I did NOT expect this. I mean, I didn't even think I'd need to have that animation ready until the end of the month... I thought it would take at least that long to make the five-hundred mark... but I had to scramble to put it all together a lot sooner than I thought I would because MAN, did I underestimate you guys! Not only did we hit the mark, we more than doubled it! Oh, criminy, I'm aching with gratitude. It hurts to have fans as cool as you all. I can't articulate just how damn much this HELPS. It's like I'm Bruce Willis without shoes on getting ready to cross that floor covered in broken glass, and then, wow, someone (in this case you, the fans) throws some pillows on the ground making a rough path for me to walk on! I still have to be careful, but this makes things a lot better. And now I can sneak up and really go to town on those terrorists, even though they're actually thieves, and man, they'll be all like, "Curse you McClane! How did you navigate the broken glass without wounding your bare feet??" And I'm all like "You didn't know I have a webcomic, did you Hans? It's http://www.zebragirl.net. Look it up sometime if you get Internet in Hell." And then I'll shoot him just enough to make him stumble out the window, but he'll be hanging on by his watch or something, and he'll reach for his gun, and I'll, um, kick him and he'll fall, and it'll be fitting because if my feet hadn't been so healthy I wouldn't have been able to... kick... and... I'm done. The point is, this is great. If kept up, this is the sort of thing that could very well cement this website's future. Thanks, you bunch of Zebra Nuts.
But now I feel kind of bad, because it almost seems like I cheated you somehow... like you've earned more than just a free desktop and a late, lousy animated pun (by the way, you do get it, don't you? Think about it). I need to make this up to you. Oh I know! Instead of just one desktop, I'll come up with two for this month! It'll take some work, but you're worth it. I'll have them in the store by the end of October. ...Early November, at the latest. And the shops need new merchandise! And the fan art needs getting-to! And a new hit counter! And-and-and--!
Oh, let's just say I've got a lot to do for such fine, upstanding webcomic readers. In the meantime, stay safe, I hope all of you have a Happy Halloween, and I'll forego my scheduled stalking plans because you guys just deserve to live! Though there's this one secluded campground I'll be dropping in on, it's tradition. They don't get Internet there anyway.
Also, check out Charby the Vampirate, a kooky fun comic that's throwing a party right now. Everyone's invited, just look at the current comic and maybe here too - you might see someone you know! And then check out the rest of the archives, because that would not be bad to do.
And here's one more surprise, just to make today really, reaallly nice. Are you ready? Mawgan Dell has cooked up another heaping helping of Angels and Demons! Yes! And I just know you're anxious to dig right in to that. So you do that. You dig right in. And you enjoy. You've earned it this week.
So! I guess that takes care of this month's little adventure. Highly successful, very few casualties, no complaints!
...Of course, now the question is... what'll I do for next month??
-Joe
NEWS for 10/03/06: Hey. This is a bit impromptu, but I've been considering it for a while and figured if I was ever going to start it up, now would be the time. What are you blathering about, England? A monthly donation gimmick! See, on the right there, below the newsbox. See it?
Now, I've been hesitant to go through with this because I don't feel like I've earned the right to ask for donations, what with my sporadic mere-weekliness. But I honestly can't think of anything I have to lose, and I was emboldened by seeing The Wotch making TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH. I may just be bi-weekly at my very best, but I can live with aiming for one fourth of that.
And more to the point, I really could use some income from this comic. Money's as much a concern now as it's ever been. Not long ago I found myself actually considering moving Zebra Girl to a pay-site, and man, that goes right against my personal philosophy.
Oh, I don't want to scare you guys, I'll try and keep the comic going even if I don't make a red cent. Don't cry. But it sure would help, and look... I'm waiting patiently in that box down there to do something, and who knows what it'll be? I'll throw in a new, free desktop to boot. And the comic IS going back to weekly updates, no more fooling, seriously.
I don't know if this raggedy comic and these little prizes are worth five hundred bucks a month. But maybe they'll be worth the occasional donation to the occasional fan, and if I've got as many fans as I hope I do then that'll be plenty. So... are you feeling occasional today?
Hey, if that made just a little more sense it could almost be a catch-phrase.
